Our day started at 4 am(5 am for Quince), our flight left Taipei at 7:50 am. Compared to our last flight, it seems to take no time at all. At almost 10 am exactly we touched down at Hong Kong International Airport. This is where things got rough for our little traveler. Quince and I went through security/immigration while Richard and Robert L took the ferry to mainland China. He did not want to leave daddy in the airport.
I reminded him we would be going by train to the hotel. Richard let him know that it would only be a short time, Saturday to Monday, before we would all be together again. He asked Quince to take good care of me while he was away. It is Monday as I type this and I would say Quince has done a good job.
Our first day we took the express train into Hong Kong, followed by a shuttle bus right to the hotel. It’s very easy to find and convenient. The only hard part was this heavy box Richard asked us to pack. After we reached the hotel, we took a short walk. Turns out our street is the dried seafood street. Both sides are lined with shops selling all kinds of dried sea items. Also included are teas and mushrooms in some. We are close to a subway line, about 5-7 minute walk with little legs. Our first lunch was at the hotel as I had NO idea where we are in town.
After lunch we met up with a friend of mine who lived in Nanjing with me, Gabriel. He happened to be in Hong Kong at the same time. We spent time with his aunt and uncle, Siobhan and Phil. Together the 5 of us went to Victoria Peak. We intended to take the centrifugal train up, but the wait was well over 2 hours we heard. That idea was scraped and we used a taxi. It was a windy two lane road, just like home! Once at the top we did part of a short hike that goes by a view point. Even though it was foggy, very light rain and breeze the view was still amazing. When we headed back, it really started to pour. We got quite wet on the walk back, of course I hadn’t brought my umbrella. Quince was loving the walk there and back. Come on guys, this is a nature walk is the phrase he repeated over and over. They invited us to dinner and a walk around the night market in Kowloon, however we had to decline. Quince fell asleep in the taxi ride down.
After a slow start we made our way to the subway station to purchase our octopus cards. Quince is so excited and proud to have his own card. It’s pink and we found a luggage holder at disneyland that fits the card. Our lunch was at a nearby cooked food center, we ate fried rice.
The rest of the day was spent inside Disneyland Hong Kong, which is another post.
